Date of Hike: Tue. April 13, 2010
Trails: Jewell Trail, Snow fields, Gulfside Trail.
Jewell trail was firm this morning. I wore spikes up to treeline while Bill Marcotte bare booted. At tree line we switched to snow shoes and took the snow fields to Sphinx Col.
The Gulfside really didn't have a lot of snow. Only a few inches to about a foot in places with lots of rocks showing. Again, spikes and bare boots to the summit of Jefferson. We met a group of 17 Canadians coming off of Jeff and headed to George.
On the way back, Bill and I really did a job on the Jewell. We cleared almost every blow down and brushed back and opened the trail up from tree line down to the view. We also cleared some nasty ones down lower on the flats. It's really in great shape right now.
Beautiful above tree line day with bright, warm temps, and no wind.
