Date of Hike: Wed. 3-10-10
Trails: Jewell Trail, Snowfields, Gulfside Trail
The Jewell trail was hard packed to the first view point, enough that micro-spikes or equivalent would be sufficient. From there on for the remainder of the hike everyone used snowshoes. Lots of blow downs and lean overs on the Jewell. About 1/2 mile from treeline the trail veers off to the right and whacks uphill to the western edge of the ridge and joins the trail at the rock pile.
We walked the snow field over to Sphinx Col. The snow being very consolidated and in some cases styrofoam. All other trails were a mixture of windblown snow, and hard pack. Some ice on the climb to Washington.
Blue sky day with just some slight wind. We hiked with Hiker Ed's Grid group today. We saw a lot of familiar faces on the summits today.
