trails: livermore trail, bushwhack
conditions: some limited room to park was available across the road from the livermore trailhead adjacent to lily pond. the trailhead sign is gone and the start of the trail is now an active logging road. this road was plowed for a couple tenths to a landing. from here the trail continued straight ahead across a small brook. over the course of the day we encountered 12-24" of non-consolidated snow. depths varied along the way. we followed the trail until its final climb to the pass and from there branched off and started our bushwhack up to the ridge line. the going was generally open with some steep spots. once on the ridge line we continued in friendly woods up towards the subpeak which we detoured around to the sw to avoid a patch of thick fir/spruce on the northern end of the plateau. good going from there down to the col and up to the summit. occasional tough footing where blowdown wasn't totally covered, but with a bit more snow it will be real nice. we crossed a number of small drainages all of which were not an issue today.
equipment: snowshoes.
comments: a beautiful day in the woods. we got a pretty casual start to allow temps to warm up a bit though it was still pretty chilly when a breeze came through the trees along the ridge. though longer than a direct route up from near kanc pass this is a nice route to the summit with almost continuous good woods as long as you wind around the occasional nasty patch. a few nice, but limited views along the way. thanks to jeremy for a good hike.
