Hubbard Brook road is good shape with only a couple smaller tree overhangs on the way...parking for a couple of vehicles at Hubbard Brook end, more room at Mt. Kineo trailhead...
Mt. Kineo Trail: from Hubbard Brook Rd. side, footpath good with a few wet, muddy, overgrown, blowndown areas...once up over height of land and down near Donkey Hill Cutoff (snowmachine trail) it is grassy and some good boot sucking mud pits..enough yellow blazes to let you know you are still on trail...
Donkey Hill Cutoff in good shape nothing really of concern...
Three Ponds Trail: beaver dam crossing done with dry feet...yellow blaze lets you know turn left shortly after (unless you want to hit another pond)....
looks like you might be able to go across the edge of the swamp near Foxglove Pond but we did take the bypass...where snowmachine trail goes left there is some flagging for the trail proper...up over height of land footpath somewhat evident with little blazing, once on the downslope many really overgrown hobblebush patches...WMG directions right on (including the overgrown grassy field near the end of trail)..
Hubbard Brook Trail...nice walk up .4 grassy logging road to sign and then some beaver dam action shortly after...we used small broken tree tops to make bridges across outflow ditch at worst beaver dam, then trail takes a sharp left turn (tree on right had double blazes) with flagging in a spruce tree..I did not see this but my partner did!! thanks of course!! Rest of way was ok easy to follow...last beaver dams up near height of land had enough dry land to skirt the edge...did not find any lost articles from a previous hiker, it was too overgrown!! Great area though, glad we did it...
