Conditions: Old Bridal Path is mainly well-packed snow, but there are some soft spots in open-sun areas, and there are also some icy areas. The Greenleaf Trail is mostly packed snow from the hut until you get out of the scrub. But from there on, it’s mainly pure ice all the way to the summit.
Special Equipment: For the Old Bridal Path, probably you’ll be more comfortable wearing some type of traction device. However, for the Greenleaf Trail, crampons are absolutely necessary to reach Lafayette summit.
Comments: It’s that time of year where you sometimes go from wearing lightweight warm-weather clothes at the start of the hike, then to wearing full-winter gear at the summit. Lots of layering and de-layering!
Was going to do the loop and return via the Falling Waters Trail. However, the wind on the exposed ridge was too brisk for me. Like to savor the ridge-walk, not endure it!!
A few photos from this trek are HERE.
