Conditions: As reported today by Jason, the Liberty Spring Trail was well packed to the Franconia Ridge Trail, and then a little fluffy from there on. There were a few blow-downs, but all were easy to workaround in one way or the other. Brook crossings presented no issues, but snow/ice bridges were beginning to deteriorate. The bushwhack trail from the bike path up to the Liberty Springs Trail is also broken out.
Special Equipment: Also as reported in Jason's posting, some type of traction makes the trek a bit steadier, and poles are helpful for brook crossings.
Comments: Just want to alert anyone planning on trekking over to Flume that we only broke trail down to the bottom of the descent from Liberty to a blow-down area to get few snapshots of Flume. So, please don’t get your hopes up that the trail is broken all the way to Flume! (However, trail-breaking was not particularly difficult, and so this should not be an issue, even if hiking alone.)
Besides being another great day in the mountains, Zman, Grant & I had the bonus-treat of some great sledding on our descent from Mt. Liberty!!
Views were not the best today, but 3 photos from this trek are HERE.
