Mt. Liberty, Mt. Flume via bike path, Basin bushwhack, Liberty Spring Trail, Franconia Ridge Trail

Date of Hike: Friday, April 10, 2009

Trail Conditions: Bare ground, mud, spring snow, packed powder

Special Equipment Required: Light traction

Comments:

Bike path to Basin bushwhack entrance - about half bare, the other half packed snow/ice. Barebootable.

Basin bushwhack - mostly bare, a little wet down low (water crossing easily done with logs, some monorail left.

Liberty Spring Trail - fairly bare until water crossings. Consistent snow starts above final water crossing. Water crossings all rock hoppable. Mostly monorail, but still strong. Used micropsikes.

Franconia Ridge Trail to Mt. Liberty - some monorail, about an inch of snow on top from a few days ago. Blue ice under that snow above treeline. Used microspikes.

Franconia Ridge Trail to Mt. Flume - blue ice under snow above treeline. Monorail and wet snow to col, then firm base with packed powder surface to summit.

I cut up about 8-10 blowdowns, but a few still remain, none too tricky to get by at this point.
