A bit tardy in posting this, but here's my trip report of a semi-loop outing to climb Mt Madison last Sunday (the 10th). We ascended via Osgood Ridge and descened via the Daniel Webster Trail. Surprisingly to me, we had to break trail pretty much the entire way up and the entire way down. Looked like no sign of human activity for at least a week. The 1000 feet of ascent in the alpine zone is indeed quite beautiful in winter!

So, as of last Sunday, there is/was a decent track on both of these trails. There were a few blowdowns on the mid-section of the Daniel Webster trail, very little on the Osgood Ridge Trail / Osgood Cutoff Trail.

Andrew . . . splendid report and photos at the link you provided! Thank you for sharing!

Also, I have a personal reason for being very appreciative of this report. The Osgood Cut-Off is one of the adopted trails that I maintain, and so it was good to read that there are no major blowdowns on that trail!

Wait...you maintain the Osgood Cut-Off?

In that case, shouldn't you have been out there a week ago breaking trail in advance of Andrew's hike? :)
Yeah, well you know with all the budget cutbacks, some services have been "cut-off" for the Cut-Off.;)
