After reading the report from Valley Way posted on 3/10 decided to take adavantage of clear skies and warm temps to do Madison. Valley Way was great till about tent platforms, about 6" of soft snow above until above treeline. Some traction helpful on icy hard packed trail Slipped here and there without microspikes. No need for snowshoes. Bring microspikes and crampons for traction.
Full crampons for Osgood to summit essential for safety. Several parties ascended with microspikes, but they wished they had brought full crampons for the summit cone. Thick glaze of icy on all rocks and everything in between. Fantastic day with clear skies, brilliant sun, and calm winds. What sights on a sunny day! Pierre, they Pyrenees made the summit too.
