It's not the case that everyone in the Adirondacks thinks this. There is a wide range of opinions. And there are many factors other than parking involved.
 
So, does somebody who buys a reservation at Greenleaf Hut get an automatic permit or do they take their chances and get in line?. Then the question comes, is the state giving preferential treatment to AMC over a John Q Public?.

The lower Greenleaf trail is a nice option Plenty of parking at the Tram. The walk up the bike trail is not that bad.
IMO The AMC is already getting preferential treatment by sucking up multiple parking spaces. Not only at OBP but Appalachia and the Ammo also. They should be shuttling their guests to trailheads from one or two central lots. Hiker parking should not be allowed at Cannon Tramway. Yet another example of induced overuse.

That is a good point. Not only GreenLeaf Trail but Kinsman Ridge Trail also. My bad I was thinking a bit more on a macro level. Parking should be limited there like a lot of other lots to a small number. Parking and shuttling the masses from that lot only to deposit them at OBP/ FW is not doing anything to limit impact.
 
Unless its changed, the paved Tramway Parking lot was signed that it was not for hiker parking. The designated lot was a dirt lot somewhat out of sight to the south end of the paved lot. It is odd that the Old Man Viewing lot on the north side of the parkway that no longer has a view is signed and patrolled for short term parking only. There is herd path that connects up with the Greenleaf trail and the approach to the cliffs from this lot.

The state was using the ski area lot to the west of Artist Bluff for their shuttles. Two years ago the state had stated that the state was going to paid parking at Lafayette east and west lots and use the fees to subsidize the shuttle bus but that was not implemented. There was supposed to be a grand planning group formed of major stakeholders a few years ago during Covid to come up with long term solutions to the overuse of all the WMNF trails, I never saw any results. The only changes at Lafayette east and west was a few spaces were marked "for official use only" and they installed small wooden "toll booths" at each lot.

I always wondered about that. That lot is in a pretty convenient spot. I really enjoy the Greenleaf Trail but that initial section just cutting across on PUD from Cannon is somewhat underwhelming. Considering that lot has no function any more it would be an easy trailhead conversion to get people out of the Cannon lot. I'm not sure a lot of people use that route but I'm not in there enough. I think I've done it twice and never saw a person on it. It's been awhile though. That may have changed post-Covid like many other seldom used trails.
 
The tram lot is also a convenient place to park if doing the Eagle Cliff ""bushwhack" north to south traverse. It requires some off trail skills particularly in finding the beginning and the final drop to Greenleaf trail (if in doubt stay east of the ridge to avoid the cliff band but for the majority of the ridge it is easy to follow. There are several great views including the ridge. Nice one to do on busy weekend but take your time as its not a full days worth.

Interesting to read comments on The White Mountain Volunteer's FB Page. Here is a quote from their page regarding activity OBP/FW from yesterday Sunday 6/26/24. On a positive note it looks as if this program is having some positive results: "A lot of groups started the Memorial Day weekend with hikes at the Old Bridle Path trailhead on Saturday. Lead Steward Tawnya Gilbertson stopped by to help greet many of those hikers with Ron Rompala and me. Most 277 hikers we spoke with were well prepared and 50 decided to change plans after getting more information about the trails, weather and equipment".

Salty, I just picked up on your clever thread shift. Major Major from Catch 22.
he was a memorable character, but Orr was my personal favorite.

was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no
longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and
sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have
to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the
absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle
