Going up Sat was OK, some ice and hard snow and lots of blow downs. Sat night added about 3" of new snow making the trip down from the shelter pretty tough as the hard snow and ice were now covered by snow. Some wore crampons but stablelizers seemed to work better. Poles were a must. This trail is going to get worse do to the blow downs as the snow builds up. There is more than one plave where you have to crawl under the blowdown and when you add a foot of snow this will no longer be possible. Going over will not work unless we get lots and lots of snow so people will have to find a way around them.
This hike was lead by the NH Mountain Club (formally the YMCA Alpine Club). We lead hikes in the Whites year round and can be contacted by going to Yahoo Groups and putting in the NH Mountain Club
