Carter-Moriah northern trail at the end of Bangor Street in Gorham, NH
Parking:
Did not see any parking fee station and most important - did not have a parking ticket when we returned.
The parking area is a bit unusual as its at the end of Gorham Street in from of some private homes. We parked right in front of a personal garden next to 2-3 other vehicles that appeared to be hikers, however, there were lots of “No Parking “ signs at other places close by.
May be worth the State of WMNF to take a look – certainly looks as though the MAY be some encroachment onto available parking. When we returned we saw folks outside their homes – they all seemed very pleasant.
Trail length:
The book “The 4000-Footers of The White Mountains” says the trail is a 9.5 mile loop, Every Trail (http://www.everytrail.com/guide/mt-moriah-new-hampshire) has it at 10.0 miles. Lynn and I concur with Every trail – verified with (3) different GPS units (9.9 to 10.1 miles)
Up and down for us was a bit slow as we had our Golden Retriever Otter with us. There was no water anywhere on the trail so we had to stop several times to pull out the dish and pour some Poland Springs for OT.
It’s interesting that most consider this a ½ day hike…. Were aren’t stragglers ( well maybe a bit sometimes), however, we had a hard time doing the RT in less than 5 ½ hours moving time.
