Date of Hike: Mon. 12-28-09
Trails: Stony Brk. and Carter-Moriah trails.
We were a group of 10 today with Ed Hawkins and Denise Penn's AMC group. The Stony Brk. trail to the col jct. with the Carter-Moriah Tr. was hard this morning, some bare booted while others used micro-spikes. From the jct. up over the ridge to the summit, snowshoes were in order. We kept them on for the rest of the day. Some blowdowns, of which we cleared a few. The worst section was along the ridge, because of the heavily ice laden leaners, which were obstructing the trail. Nothing that difficult to get around. It started snowing early and kept up all day. Our nice snowshoe track should be filled in after this snow, but the base is firm and consolidated. Water crossings are no problem.
Great day with mild temps and very little wind.
