The pitter patter of raindrops on the roof and the extended forecast through Sunday really makes me glad that I took this hike on Tuesday. It was an awesome July day, with puffy cumulus rolling across the sky. The views were top notch, and for the most part, the haze wasn't all that bad. I took my friend Caitlin, and she took her border collie, Coby, who ended up being great company!
We arrived around 10am and started up the Mt Osceola Trail. It was just how I remembered; not very steep at any point, but quite rocky, so the footing was a bit awkward in places. I think it was Coby's first major hike, but he did quite well, and kept looking back to wait of us This was Caitlin's first 4k, and she did awesome. One of these days, I'm actually going to do a new 4000 footer, but who knows when!? This was my third time summiting Osceola!
The hike up was actually pretty uneventful but I do like the trail further up with all the exposed bedrock jutting out from the side. Coby seemed to like it to as he was running all over the place, only stopping to sip water, and wait for the slow pokes. It took just under 3 hours to summit Osceola, just a bit over book time, but who cares? The breeze was wonderful, and stopping to smell the roses made for a great experience you sometimes forget to do when you're in a hurry. Oh, and the views were amazing...

On our way down, we took our time, and chatted the day away. Near the top, we met a cute little brown poodle named Charlie Brown. Normally I don't like poodles, but this dog was adorable. And he looked very happy to be out hiking, so he was fine in my book. We got to the bottom around 4pm, so the trip took about 6 hours total, including over an hour stay at the top. The only thing I wish I had brought was the sun screen. My arms are on fire today! Here are the pictures.
