Against better judgement, I went looking for Mud Pond, which is about a mile northwestish from the summit Mt. Pemigewasset. I'm not quite recovered from throwing my back slightly out a month ago. It's so hard to resist the forest at my favorite time of year

At sunrise on the way I was happy to see my freind Hobbs, an adult bull moose, for the first time this spring in his favorite lick on the Kancamagus. This is my third year seeing him. The color may look a bit weird because there was very little light.

Mt. Pemigewasset, aka Indian Head...

I took the loop trail from the Flume trailhead. The trail is completely dry to the summit, with plenty of trout lillies and red trilliums and hobblebush blossoms...

nice views from the summit...spring bud colors are almost peaked...must be beautiful in autumn with all these mixed hardwoods...

This bog looks to be just upstream from Gorgiana Falls, judging by the map. Looks interesting for exploring...

After a nap on the summit I went for Mud Pond but I never found it. I think I was close but I was worried about working my back too much so I just tinkered around in some nice moose habitat...

On the way home I saw a bull moose on the west side of the Kancamagus in the middle of the afternoon. This is the same guy I saw last week...

Fantastic shot! Sure he's not just smiling for the camera? ;):D What a handsome fella! Haha.

Maybe this would be a good one for those, "Insert caption here" things you see in magazines sometimes.

Thanks for the pics, your "smiling" moose, the Celtics, and the Bruins winning just made my night, now go SOX!

I think your reputation as a fantastic photographer of moose has spread throughout “moose-dom”. Probably, the guy with the toothy grin was merely trying to impress you during his interview for the job of “top-model”!

Hey, sorry you didn’t make it to Mud Pond, but as you indicated, it’s nice moose habitat in the general vicinity of the pond, and so, you still had a nice trip.:)
