After having read report/comments from last week this was totally different from what I had envisioned!
Arriving about 2:45pm I was surprised the parking lot was still almost full! However, found a spot about 200' from the trailhead There were about 8 folks that had just come down from the summit there as I started up @ 3:00pm. The Mt Tecumseh Trail was totally packed out! Soon 2 women passed me on their way down. The trail wove around as it gently headed up...no where near a ski trail, maybe higher up? About half way up two men were headed down and the trail dipped down to cross a small covered stream. After climbing up the other side there was a "T" intersection. There was a sign post with signs showing direction of the trail for traveling up and down and another sign pointing to the left that said "view". If you went a short distance down the "view" was an intersecting ski slope...which you almost couldn't notice from the intersection. Going right @ the sign, the trail widened out and climbed pretty much in one direction @ a decent grade. It had taken about half hour to reach that point and another half hour found me on the ridge. From there it was an easy 15 minutes to the small wooded summit. Just down a few feet to the east there was a great view of the Tripyramids and off to the left Mt Washington was very visible, beyond the Oceolas
At the summit I changed from the waist up, put windpants on, took some pictures and turned on the GPS. I was about 30' off the summit from map info I'd put in earlier!
Headed back down after 15 minutes, taking a few more pix along the way...unfortunately have the film kind so can't post! I really enjoy seeing other folks pictures which are also quite informative and helpful!
Was back @ the trailhead @ 5:14pm. GPS showed distance to be 2.35 miles(had it on for the way down only).
For me this was a nice little hike with decent views in a few spots! I had thought I'd be hiking on/next to ski trails...but never even saw any(really didn't look to hard), although I could hear a lift line @ one point. As far as I could tell, the trail showed no signs of having been skied on either!?
After being sick most of last week I was thrilled to summit my 51st of NE 100 in winter...on the downhill slide, har, har, har...Hike On!!!
