We arrived a little after 8:00 AM in a line of cars. We made it into lot 2 near the entrance, a fairly good spot. Keep in mind if you come in on Saturday that the lots fill up quickly.
The trail is in great condition and well marked. There were no obstacles at all on the trail from bottom to top. The first stream crossing is open but low the others are fairly well frozen over.
When we started out the trail had a couple of inches of fresh powder over hard pack. I wore snowshoes from car to car, Lauky barebooted or I guess you would say he bare pawed from car to car. There was no postholing today by barebooters although there were a few holes left over from barebooters made no doubt on warmer days. There was a fair mix of snowshoes and bareboots on the trail today and the snowshoes pretty well packed the trail out. I did notice that while not punching through, the plastic boots tend to dig the trail up more than other more flexible boots.
Coming down was very fast and smooth.
This was a fun half day hike with temps comfortably in the 20s and fairly good views from the top.
Elevation gain: about 2000'
Mileage: 5
