Date of Hike: Friday, May 30, 2008
Trail Conditions: Dry ground, mud, spring snow, ice
Special Equipment Required: None
Comments:
Avalon Trail to A-Z Junction - snow free and mostly dry. Brook crossings no problem.
A-Z Trail to Mt. Tom Spur Trail to Mt. Tom - mostly dry, two measurable snow patches (1-3 feet deep) (a few dozen feet long, and a few hundred feet long).
Willey Range Trail to Mt. Field - a few measureable snow patches, but not too bad. Trail in fairly decent shape.
Avalon Trail from Mt. Field to Mt. Avalon - a mess! 2-3 feet deep snow for at least half the trail, with random hollow areas underneath, lots of mud, running water, and standing water.
Avalon Trail from Mt. Avalon to A-Z junction - mostly dry and in good shape.
Bugs weren't bad at all, though some were starting to swarm at the brook crossing just past the A-Z junction.
