Trail Conditions: Starr King Trail very densely packed snow to summit, from 2 to about 10 inches in depth. A few icy patches. Trail overall in great shape, no blowdowns.
Microspikes highly useful and nearly essential, though you could get around the icy areas if barebooting. Brought but did not use snowshoes. Pretty much everyone on trail had microspikes on boots and snowshoes on backs.
A great day to hike up Waumbek, temps in 20's, overcast with very light snow. A remarkably easy February hike.
Starr King road is pretty clear through to the parking area, so no need to park on the highway.
