Full route: Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Huntington Ravine Trail to Nelson Crag Trail to the summit. Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Lion Head Trail to Tuckerman Ravine Trail back to Pinkham Notch.
Date of Hike: Sunday 8/17/08
Trail Conditions: muddy, especially on the lower stretches of Huntington Ravine. Wet rocks and roots make for slower going. Stream crossings all manageable.
Special Equipment Required: poles very useful for stream crossings, but stow them at the top of the Fan for scrambling. Gore tex boots. Gaiters. Hat and windbreaker for windy, cool conditions above treeline.
Comments: A fantastic route. Beautiful cascades, awesome views in the ravine, fun scrambling above the Fan. No views from the top, 50mph gusts and cool, way too crowded on top. Hit the trail 7:50 AM, back at Pinkham 1:27 PM. Photos www.pbase.com/jonathantr
