Trail Conditions: Wide packed trail to where Lion's Head climb begins. Then it was icy. On the way down, the many hikers to come through had created what looked like snow/ice stairs. Great footing.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes not needed. Full crampons and an ice axe are a must. Our group of seven had a rope which some used to descend Lion's Head in one spot.
Comments: Fabulous, 100% stellar day. I was on the summit for almost an hour. Watched ravens from Lion's Head for 10 minutes and then here and there as we continued up. What a way to do a first winter ascent.
