Trail Conditions: Tuckerman's and Lion Head are firm. Boott Spur has received far less use, was hard to follow at times, and was soft by the afternoon. We postholed some.
Special Equipment Required: I used microspikes from Pinkham to the first aid cache at the base of Lion Head, crampons and axe to the upper junction with the summer route, snowshoes (for heel lift, not flotation) and poles to the summit. Back to crampons on descent. First/last time I've used crampons this season.
Comments: very limited views on ascent, great views on descent. Like two different days. Lots of happy hikers out on this last winter weekend. Thanks to Chris, Carmen, and Mike, the people with whom I hiked, hiked a little, or almost hiked, on this very eventful day.
