This was the Annual Mt Washington Saturday After Thanksgiving hike, which Cruddy has been leading since the late 1970s (wow, he's old). This year, due to the weather forecast, we cheated and hiked on Friday.
Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail was extremely icy. Microspikes were definitely worth their weight today. Since it was warmish and the trails were otherwise quite dry, most of us were back in trail runners today and happy with that choice.
Winds were mild although, upon checking Obs stats afterwards, stronger than I'd guessed, with gusts over 50 when we were up there. It was one of those days when "the wind was coming from the wrong direction."
We headed over toward Clay, then Jefferson and down Caps Ridge to our waiting vehicle, following splatters of blood(!!) much of the way down. Hmm... Ice was not an issue on any of the other trails today, only Ammonoosuc Ravine.
No need for the headlamps today!
