We did an out and back via the Jewell Tr. There was about 3 to 4" of fresh power on the trail. We hiked with Ed Hawkin's Grid group today. There were 5 of us. We broke trail all the way to the Gulfside Trail, knocking snow off the low hanging branches as we went.

The trail above treeline was obscure so we took the liberty of making our own in a few sections. The Gulfside up to the summit was mostly hard pack with some exposed rocks. The wind really didn't let up today, but it wasn't that bad. The air temp at the summit was 17 degrees.

On the way back we met up with 3 hikers headed for the summit with no snowshoes or poles. They made a mess of our fine job. We smoothed it out a bit but they had to come back down. So tomorrow expect some postholes.

Snowshoes are required, because the trail isn't fully consolidated yet. Crampons not needed. A few blowdowns. Bill Marcotte cleared one large one.

Great day above tree line with Ed, John & June (of J&J fame) and Bill.
