It sounds like the folks at the Mt. Washington Observatory are a little weary of the alternating return and retreat of winter to/from the summit. But, on a lighter note they posted a photo that a few VFTT's might find a pleasant diversion. I know I did. :)

This link will likely expire with the next summit report.

fox

Tons of fox in the area - drive up the Cog Access road some night and you will see many of them out hunting along the road. The cafeteria at the cog also has a few that hang out for leftovers. One of the crew that us updating the Cog engines who is from Wales has some unbelieable photos of fox taken up close at both the base area and up on the hill.

yep - when kmac little sister and I were up there last month - the fox was running around the alpine garden - very cool animals.

many on views have seen the same - fun!

Sweet picture! Neat animals. I saw some fresh, unidentified scat on the Lion Head trail on Saturday, I'm now wondering if it was from the fox.

On a somewhat related note, I saw a red fox about a half mile down the road from where I live the other day. Pretty cool. :D

We see red foxes in our suburban back yard here in Medfield too. I would say I see them four or five times a week when out running. What I enjoyed about the photo was the stark contrast of the snow covered summit rocks and the red of its coat. Or was it the snow covered ski trails at Wildcat in the background? The three of us are headed up to Jackson after a month in the suburbs - the longest we'vre been away from the Whites in four years. Call it "homesickness". Hopefully there will be some snow to ski in. If not maybe a hike over Doublehead is in order. Thanks Obsevatory Crew, you made my day - now back to work until Friday.
