It has been a few years for me - I forget - is there a water spigot/fountain outside at the summit? I seem to recall refilling at one, but I am not sure. Planning to be there well ahead of the summit buildings opening times...

Thanks for any info... :)

Spigot

I cannot recall that there is one outside. I do believe that you will be able to get inside as they usually allow thru-hikers access to water and to come in out of the weather, etc. during the summer months. If you ask someone from the State Park, I'm pretty sure they will not turn you away if you need water, regardless of what time it is.

Not sure of your itenarary, but there is a pump at Hojo's in Tucks, and
there is an outdoor spigot at the well at Madison Springs Hut now. Not sure when it will be shut off for the season.

Usually there's one outside - as you approach the main door, look to the right where there an area with some pea stones and often a bench. There's usually a 2x4 bracing an outside water faucet sticking up from the ground.

In the building I usually use the drinking fountain, even though sometimes there's signs asking you not to use it for that purpose. But, if you're filling a liter Nalgene, the faucets in the men's room are too cramped to allow a Nalgene, so - I use the fountain. No one has ever hassled me for using it.

The designated hiker's faucet is in the entranceway of the main building (cafeteria), just inside the doors (I think the bathrooms are to the left there as you're entering) at a pillar in the middle of the hallway. It's extra-tall to accommodate water bottles.
Don't know if those doors are locked overnight; never noticed an outside faucet.

Good to know. I also plan on being there well before they open very soon.
