Hiked up Mt Waubmek on 12/31/06. What a way to finish off the year's hiking!
With fresh snow and no ice in site, it was truely a Winter Wonderland! Cloudy skies as we drove from Campton over to Jefferson, but with hopes of bluer skies.
We were able to AWD to the parking lot easily and were on the trail with a lazy start. It was the first time for all 4 of us, and a beautifull hike. We just enjoyed the fresh powdery snow and were able to bare boot all the way. The trees all covered with snow made a very surreal setting after all the snowless days of hiking. The sun co-operated as we neared Starr King and the chimney area. We stopped for lunch in bright sunshine on our faces and then continued over to Waubmek Peak for incredible views above the clouds of the Presi's.
With no rush to leave we relaxed again near the chimney and finally headed down with the sun just starting to set. We felt like little kids playing in the first snowfall of the season, kicking fresh powder with our boots and enjoying the sun setting, blazing on all the ice crystals in the snow as we got closer to the end of our hike.
We finished with huge smiles on our faces and hoping for more hikes in the near future just as beautifull!
