After my long day above treeline yesterday, I wanted a short easier hike before heading home to Rhode Island. Starr King and Waumbek fit the bill and I was the first car in the lot when I arrived at 6:20 AM. Low 40s for the start and I wore shorts and a T-shirt with a light pullover. Soon enough that pullover was tucked away as well. It was bare trail for the first 1.2 miles before the monorail appeared. I rock hopped for a 1/4 mile before relenting and putting on my microspikes. Monorail was stable the rest of the way. Beautiful views from both Starr King and the Waumbek outlook with a lovely undercast hovering over the Appalachia area. Began to encounter people after I descended Starr King. A lovely hike to wrap up this short White Mountain trip! And a tribute to the unpredictability of weather - a few days later and snow was back on the menu!
