Mt. Whiteface, East Sleeper via Blueberry Ledge Trail, Rollins Trail, Kate Sleeper Trail, Blueberry Ledge Cutoff

Date of Hike: Saturday, August 9, 2008

Trail Conditions: Mud, running water, pooled water, dry trail

Special Equipment Required: None.

Comments:

Blueberry Ledge Trail to Whiteface view ledge - fairly dry up to Cutoff junction, then some running water on trail, brook crossing no problem, but shortly thereafter, significant pooled water (as usual at wet times), then running water on trail up to the bluberry ledges (somewhat slick), some more mud/running water, then fairly dry trail from Wiggin junction to upper ledges, wow what a run-on sentence. Last set of ledges had some water running down them, so a little bit slippery.

Rollins Trail to Whiteface summit - running water on ledges down to Sleeper junction, then a bit muddy to summit cairn.

Kate Sleeper Trail to Downes junction - running water on a lot of the pitches. Brook crossing doable, but a bit tricky as rocks were wet/mossy.

Kate Sleeper Trail from Downs junction to East Sleeper - one or two small mud patches/pooled water sections, but generally not too wet.

Blueberry Ledge Cutoff - ledges were slick, and upper portion of the trail that follows a creek was the creek. After crossing the brook, the trail was fairly dry to the foot bridge (which goes to Dicey's Mill Trail). Staying on the Cutoff Trail, the second brook crossing was a bit tricky.

There are some blowdowns on the Blueberry Ledge Trail - none tricky to get over/under, but will require a bigger saw. Also a few on the Kate Sleeper Trail - I was able to clean up some of them, but the larger ones will require a larger saw. None of the remaining ones are tricky to get over.
