Mt. Whiteface via Blueberry Ledge Trail and Rollins Trail
Date of Hike: Monday, May 5, 2008
Trail Conditions: Dry ground, mud, spring snow
Special Equipment Required: None
Comments:
Blueberry Ledge Trail from the Cut Off junction to the first water crossing had 6" snow monorail. From the first water crossing (no problem), the flats were a little wet (as usual). Blueberry Ledges were dry, as was the trail from there to about a quarter of a mile before the Wiggins Trail junction (a few patches of snow, nothing bad). From a quarter of a mile before the Wiggins Trail to the false summit, the ledges were dry, but pretty much everything else had 2-3 feet deep snow monorail.
From the false summit to the true summit along the Rollins Trail, there was 3-4 feet of snow monorail, and plenty in the woods too. The ledgy portion of the trail just below the false summit that faces north is starting to melt out.
Plenty of blowdowns, nothing bad.
