Hiked this great little mountain on Saturday with 8 or so friends. This is a rather steep but still relatively easy loop, typically done counterclockwise, that is only 10 minutes from the Sunday River resort. The views from the north ledges are great and offer almost unobstructed 180 degree views. There's one tree in the middle of the view but that's ok. The hike is 3.25 miles with probably 1000 feet of elevation gain (estimated). The trailhead is really easy to find and is off ME 26 a few miles north of Sunday River Rd.
CONDITIONS:
Trail was 1/2 bare and 1/2 covered with 1-3 inches of snow. No ice anywhere. We all barebooted with care and didn't feel the need to use any traction. You could use traction in 1 or 2 spots, but it wasn't required.
This was a great spring hike! Highly recommended if in the Bethel/Newry area. (another great one nearby is Table Rock in Grafton Notch State Park...about 30 min away)
