Trail Conditions: Aside from a few short segments that are wet and somewhat eroded, the Reel Brook Trail is in very good condition, and provides a very pleasant trek through open hardwoods. And, aside from being its usual rugged-self, the Kinsman Ridge Trail is also in good condition between its intersection with the Reel Brook Trail and the short spur to the outlook on the East knob of Mt. Wolf.
Comments: My hiking partner Steve & I took in the fine views from the outlook on the East knob of Mt. Wolf. From this viewpoint the entire Franconia Ridge (from Lafayette to Whaleback) is visible. Also visible are several other high peaks around the East Branch of the Pemi, and the Waterville Valley region.
Our trek also included a short bushwhack to the viewless West knob of Mt. Wolf which most peakbaggers consider to be the true summit.
In the same vicinity as the West knob, we did another short whack to a heavily wooded ledge which is not visible from the trail but is literally less than 5 minutes off the trail. From that ledge are some rare & fantastic views of Gordon Pond, plus views toward Moosilauke.
A few photos from this trek are located HERE.
