Mt. Ellen (4083’) and Mt. Abraham (4006’), The Long Trail
On September 8th, members of the Taconic Hiking Club trekked the 11.6 miles at a moderate pace from Appalachian Gap on Route 17 south to Lincoln Gap.Our time was 8 hours, 10 minutes.
Left car at 9:05, passed the Theron Dean Shelter at 10:38, passed sign indicating we had hiked 3.4 miles at 11:44, 12:58 we reached the peak of Mt. Ellen, 2:09 we passed Holt Hollow, 2:39 we reached Nancy Hawkins Peak, 3:04 we reached Lincoln Peak, 3:35 we reached Mt. Abraham, and at 5:15 we reached Lincoln Gap. It took 4 hrs from the Capital District in NY to spot car and reach the north end so we could hike north to south (including coffee and breakfast stops).
