Date of Hike: 15 June
Trails: Crawford Path, Webster Cliff, Webster-Jackson
Trail Conditions: Wet, of course, due to recent rains. But with careful stepping over-the-toe mud is avoidable. Wet roots a problem, and the rocks around the peak of Jackson were slick.
Special Equipment: Gaiters useful. Poles *very* useful (I always walk with a single bamboo staff a la Colin Fletcher, but I think at least a few others would find two poles necessary on these wet trails).
Comments: Grey, wet day, with views from the peaks non-existent -- this was, literally, a walk in the clouds. But the cool, damp air kept the bugs down and the humidity was quite tolerable. The trails were more crowded than usual due to a group of 60 new interns from Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston spending a "bonding" weekend (so they told me) at the Mizpah hut. A nice Father's Day, all in all, since I couldn't be with my kids -- but one of them, bless his heart, phoned in a pre-paid tab for me at a local tavern, so after the hike, a cool tall draught!
