A nice walk and swim on the N. Fork herd path. It was quiet most of the time we were in there. On the way out we met a big Gordon College group coming in, and also a couple fellows just about to start at the parking area. Everyone was enjoying the break in the weather, which was better than forecast.
We walked the trail as far as the split, where one trail leads to East Dix and the other trail leads up the N. Fork toward the canyon, which was our intended destination. The trail was in great shape up to that point. The trail to the canyon was in pretty poor shape, compared to my previous visits.
First, some good hearted folks, who apparently believed that the East Dix branch of the trail is the ONLY branch, and had piled an enormous mass of sticks across the other trail. After we walked over that, it became evident that the canyon trail has seen very little travel. There were a lot of new down branches and trees that made travel slower than it used to be, maybe as a result of the ice storm in March. We walked about halfway to the canyon, and then decided to turn around.
So we didn't get to our destination, but it was a very nice walk in the woods!
