I had grand plans to do a traverse over to Passaconaway but was hoping Pine Bend would be easy to break out solo but that wasn't the case as it took 4 tough hours of trailbreaking to reach M Tripyramid. There was evidence of travel from before the storm but right from the start I was breaking trail through boot deep heavy wet, sticky snow. All the crossings were open but easily rock hopped. The snow depth increased as I worked towards the Wilderness Boundary, often in shin deep snow. The steep ascent following the Wilderness sign was even tougher than expected with knee deep wet snow sliding off the old hard base. Surprisingly there was actually less snow up on the ridge even though there wasn't much wind with this recent snow event. Pine Bend will definitely need a bit more travel for the snowshoe track to be well beaten down but its a start. 4 hours up 1 h 45 min back to the car, with splits like that good thing I threw in the towel on what would have been a miserable night.
