Date of Hike: Thur. April 1, 2010
Trails: Mt. Kinsman Trail and Kinsman Ridge Trail
Entrance to parking area off of Rt. 116 was rutted but doable with high ground clearance. Parking area ok. Bare ground with running water in the trail to the first stream crossing at about 1900 feet. I wore spikes from there to just past the Jct. with the Bald Knob spur. All stream crossings are rock hop-able with boots getting wet.
Snowshoes the rest of the way starting at about 2800 feet. About 2 inches of soft snow over a firm base. Almost perfect snowshoe conditions. A few walk-arounds but the trail is in excellent shape. Beautiful warm, sunny, and windless day.
Met up and chatted with "Hiker Ed" on the trail today. No traffic coming up from the Hut as of 1:00 pm.
