Conditions: I took the .5 mile snowmobile trail from the parking lot, then skied the road to the TH. Around 5-8" new snow (previous poster tracks almost invisible). Medium effort trailbreaking. First river crossing a little dicey on skis. The second stream crossing - ugh! There was daunting dropoff into the river at the edge - maybe 4-5+' down, and no easy way back up. I could not tell what was down below in the streambed, whether ice or snow to land on, so I did not cross. I switched to snowshoes (from skis) at this point and bushwhacked up along the stream - mostly open woods. I figured even if I couldn't cross, I could intersect the N Twin Trail again on the west side. After all, my GPS said I would!!!! Of course, I have a map, too. I never found the N Twin trail continuation, even tho I was dead on it according to my GPS. Oh well! After 45 minutes of searching, I turned back.
Special Equipment: Skis and snowshoes.
Comments: It was a nice day and a pleasant ski out, but I was disappointed, so I headed to hike Cannon - another bust!
