Date of Hike: Wed. 12-16-09

Trails: North Twin, Twin Way, Frost, Garfield Ridge, Gale River Tr., Ski Trail to Beaver Brook.

Bill Marcotte and I broke trail the whole way. It didn't look like anyone had been on the trails since the storms. Someone had been on the Gale River Trail since the storms, but turned back.

Grueling hike, just the two of us. The North Twin Tr. down low had some crusty surface, so we didn't sink that far in. We only made the upper crossing which was almost bridged over and was no problem. Softer and deeper snow higher up. Lots and Lots of blowdowns. We only cleared a few because of time. The trail in the col between N. Twin and S. Twin was hard to find a times. Deep soft snow all the way off of S. Twin to the Hut and down the Gale River Tr.

Snowshoes and poles. No other traction needed.

Some killer blow-downs on the Gale River Tr. The water crossings are almost bridged over and are no problem.

We did a car spot today. One at the end of the road past 7 Dwarfs (the motel was not plowed out), and the other car at Beaver Brook rest area.

Needless to say we didn't see anyone else today.
