Hi,
"Long-time" lurker doing a first TR here.
After a few aborted attempt to do a Mahoosuc traverse backpack (bad weather, no partner for the shuttle, etc.) we finally decided to do a simpler Goose Eye - Succes loop from Success pond road on Veterans Day.
The loggers are working right now; some culverts were covered on the first two miles, so the road is passable with a 2wd car, but be careful. However we left the second car on the side of the road instead of going up to the Success Trail TH, because that one is in more bad shape (no problem for a high clearance vehicule).
We started at the same time of another trio and we chatted a bit when we met again on Goose Eye summit.
It was so hot going up that we switched to shorts, but we still got some ice that was avoidable, the microspikes didn't get out.
We spent some time on the summit for lunch and looking at some not yet visited 3k. It was really a great peak to enjoy the completion of that list.
We crossed another hiker at the Carlo col junction, but we were alone on Success summit, which reminded me of the Baldpates.
Around Success, we got a lore more of mud and snow, but nothing difficult to dealt with.
Going down, we stoped by at the overlook where it was really windy. The view towards North Bald Cap's cliff is truly impressive.
Finally, at dusk, on the old logging road near the TH, we heard gun shots from hunters.
We are now moving on completing the NHHH with 8 peaks left.
