Why not a steel cable bridge like the one Frost Valley has over Bisquit Brook by the Devil's Hole?

Paul--that's been looked at, apparently. My first choice, in fact. It appears that there are no suitable trees, according to the DEC. I had meant to go over to Denning a month or two ago to check this and some other stuff out. I didn't find time but I suspect it is true, as large growth close to the channel would wash out.

Jay, that has to be one of the most pointless bridges I have ever seen <g>. Maybe, like the brook like Slide parking lot, it's capable of being a killer in season, but I kinda doubt it. Seriously, a suspension design wouldn't work on the Neversink without real engineering, inimical to the idea of wilderness. Not that the river crossing is in an especially wild area, but I'd not want to see concrete pilings or something ridiculous.

This is a picture at 5pm of the crossing, after my friend Jim and I went across it on our return from Rocky/Lone. As you can see, it's snowing and there is about an inch of snow on that log. Fortunately, it was just snow and not freezing rain. Today or in a couple of days, if there is a refreeze that log might be a scary trip! The log is level though. I remember reading sometime ago that it was crooked at one point. Jay
Had to laugh when I read your post...Bird and I did this in late Nov (no snow at the time) and we were wondering how that thing would be during the winter months...that pic answered my question! Great shot, Jay! Heres a video of Bird and I (and his dog that almost put me in the drink!) (click on TABLE MTN for the LOG CROSSING video)

Howdy Head, Where did you get that Table, complete with candelabra. I need one of those... :)

Looking at your video, I could see that the river there was a lot higher than it was when we crossed the same log. I was more worried about breaking an ankle than taken for a ride and winding up in Claryville.. (which is at least 6+ miles west of that log crosssing.)

Jay
