Set out in the tandem with my Dad to paddle a 12.5 mile section eastbound on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, upriver on the Clyde, somewhere just west of Island Pond, Vermont. The trouble is, we only made it about 11 miles before we ran out of river.

Lost on the Clyde?

We lost the main Clyde channel in a maze of dead end flats and mud, with just a couple of river miles to go. Dragged a few times on moose trails, nearly losing our shoes in the process. Think of it as bushwhacking with a 16.5 foot pulk sled. When we bailed, I completed my triathalon by hiking out 4.5 miles, then biking 9 more to the car.

Saw loons, wood ducks, great blues, etc. Had a great time paddling up the quick water and lifting over a few logs and a beaver dam. Then a quick supper in Island Pond to wrap up our visit. Will return shortly, this time with the aerial photos, and give it another go.

Thanks for reminding me . . .

The little one isn't quite ready for the trail or river.

I'd like to thank all those who made this day trip possible: My awesome wife!
