I'm heartened to see people writing in about hikes they attempted, but aborted, and why they baled, in NH trail conditions. There are three in a row today. This is not glee over frustrated plans, but pride that VFTT'ers are not afraid to turn back and to tell others what went into their decision-making. Kudos to Tuco, unregistered and a third party for stepping up to the plate, especially in light of recent incidents and discussions.

Very much agreed!

If it makes you feel better, my brother and I turned around five minutes from the summit of Lafayette once. :)

Always better to not hear about a non-rescue, if that makes sense.

Thanks Waumbek. LarryD and I didn't like the prospects and were suprised how buried the Hi Cannon ladder was. Actually, we didn't realize it was the ladder until a day later (when we saw pictures) it was so blown in. As many others likely do, I listen to the inner voice that says "don't, or why do" (and alot of other things I can't repeat here :D )

The Inner Voice

Ah..the Inner Voice..

As one who travels solo at times and with smaller groups at others I have learned to trust... The Inner Voice...It is as important as having the right stuff in your pack..even more so really as carrying over night gear does not in fact guarantee safety..only gives you a fighting chance...I have aborted a few hikes this year..see east Osceola... altered plans many times..2/ 10 abandoned Liberty and was close to home when that squall line hit..Be smart..be safe..
