With our friend Yves, we headed on the East pond trail TH on the Kanc. We followed the trail up until we were in line with the south sub-peak. Reaching that one was easy, going from open woods to moose herdpaths. The fun began after and nearly up to the summit where we were surprised to find only an old small canister (i.e. not a bilingual Cressey one) . As it was much easier than we expected (from our last trip between west and middle peak) we gave us a bit of challenge trying to get back to trail on a more direct route. We would have saved some time just getting back on our steps.
It was only 1 PM, so we stopped at the Skookumchuck TH to do Big bickford. We followed the trail up to 2800', we should have left earlier, and found the really open ridge we have heard about. Just before the summit, there is a really nice "back" view of Lafayette. On the way down, we went towards Scarface mtn. because of a note in the canister (1happyhiker) that mentioned a ledge view. We did find some partial views towards Cannon and the I93, but not a clear one. We then moved on towards the ridge and down back to the TH.
The next objective is to finish the remaining NH3K, but probably at a slower pace.
