Four of us hiked in to spend Saturday night at Carter Hut. Brrrrrr, it was cold and I was very grateful for my down parker at breaks and at the hut. Also my new Buff fleece neck gator system.
Most people were barebooting it along this well-packed trail but were post-holing deep if they stepped a bit off the center of the trail. Brian and I wore our snowshoes both for traction and to preserve the integrity of the trail.
We didn't have time (or energy) to summit Carter Dome, but did hike up a bit of the trail, trying to keep up with the little warmth the sunlight provided as it slipped behind the Wildcats.
Saw a red Forester with a VFTT plate! Lost a favorite earing somewhere along the way.
