Date Hiked: 2-9-08
Trail Conditions: Trail was well broken up to the Colvin/Blake junction. Just a single set of prints, already mostly filled in, from there up. Lots and lots of snow which translated to lots of work! Trail from Nippletop to Dial was really rough, lots of blowdown and so much snow that you were walking through tree branches that are normally way above your head. Tons of snow down the back that built up to ice chunks that had to be routinely removed. Just below Bear Den, a large group had come up from HGL trail so it seemed like a superhighway from there out.
Special Equipment: Snowshoes, obviously. Poles were mostly useless as they just sunk into the deep snow without giving any purchase.
