It was difficult to get motivated for a hike on this particular day since the conditions were very overcast, and one of the forecasts even mentioned the possibility of rain! As always, there were other things that needed to be done, and so I puttered around with various tasks until nearly noon before I finally opted to go for a hike.
However, with so little time left in the day, and with the lingering low clouds, the options were a bit limited. It was finally decided to take advantage of the situation and do a hike that probably wouldn't get done on a nice "blue-bird" day.
My destination ended up being Scarface Mountain which is that 2,802 ft peak that is situated about a mile to the NNE of Exit 35 on I-93 in the general vicinity of Cannon Mountain. (In the Adirondacks, there's a similar size mountain at 3,088 ft. which is also named Scarface. But unlike the NH mountain, it has a trail going to it!))
To begin my bushwhack to this little mountain, I parked on the east side of Route 3 about a half a mile north of the parking lot for the Skookumchuck Trail. The primary goal wasn't to go to the top of the mountain, but rather to a ledge at about 2,750 ft. It was an open woods trek all the way to within a few hundred feet of the ledge where a very thick patch of spruce put up quite a battle on the final approach!!
If nothing else, this ledge provides a view toward Cannon that is a bit unique. Below are two photos taken from the ledge. One is a zoomed view, and the other is not. Oh! And by the way, I didn't crop the top off of Cannon Mountain! That rather gray space at the top is merely a cloud hanging low over the mountaintop. (I've seen a cloud-free version of this view in an awesome photo taken by NeoAkela from this same ledge. Perhaps he will post it in a response to this posting.)

OK, now I'll finally get around to the question that was asked in the title of this report. After visiting the ledge, I decided that I might as well go to the top of the mountain, especially since I was already nearly there. Plus, I still had oodles of time left after the short trek from Rt. 3 up to the ledge.
It didn't take much of a search to locate the summit jar. Upon reading through the register, I was a bit surprised that no one had signed it since May 2008. That entry was made by none other than the VFTT folks named J&J (i.e. John & June). Most likely there have been other hikers who have visited this peak since May 2008, but they simply have not signed the register.
In the photos above, you've seen a view from a ledge not far from the summit of Scarface. So, just in case you haven't been there, and you're wondering what the actual summit looks like, take a look at the photo below!
SUMMIT OF SCARFACE MOUNTAIN (Complete with Summit Jar!)
Although this wasn't a blockbuster hike, it was a "good fit" for the circumstances on this particular day.
