North and South Twin: 6-15-13
We arrived at Haystack Road at about 7:45 as the lot was really beginning to fill up. The North Twin trail was in good shape with relatively high water levels so we opted to stay to the left side of the Little River. We crossed the river by using a forked downed tree, which Steve A flew across while H.A. and myself were glad to have poles for extra balance and stability. Some folks may want try their luck with some rock hopping but I found that using the tree and then carefully hopping on to a large boulder at the halfway mark was very doable.
There were some blowdowns and a few areas of pretty wet mud but all in all the trail was a pleasure and we made good time (about 5 and a half hours round trip).
No special equipment required today. Poles helped with the water crossing. Many people were liberally applying bug spray and sun screen in the lot. There were some bugs and swarms of mosquitos along the way but I only got bit twice.
The views were amazing!! Garfield, Lafayette, Lincoln, Liberty, Flume, the Osceolas, and many others loomed majestically in the distance. A huge thanks to SteveA and H.A. for another amazing hike and helping me bag #42 and #43. Hopefully Kibo, the Wonder Dog, will be able to join us next time
