The trail itself is in good condition. There is one blowdown up above 4000' otherwise it is clear. From the first lookout to the summit of North Twin the spruce trees have overgrown the trail. At times it reminded me of the trail between North Brother and Fort. You knew there was a good trail at your feet, you just couldn't see it.
The snow and ice are completely gone except for one spot on the south side of North Twin. The temperature rose to 60* today. The views today were limited, but it tended to be clear in the North West. The South East was really socked in.
I had decided before leaving home to try the bushwhack between the first and second crossing. I found that this "whack" is not really a "whack" any more than Mt. Nancy is a "whack." There is a clearly defined herd trail and in many places it is in very good condition. It was very easy to follow and when considering the time that would be lost picking ones way twice across the river, I'm sure it saved time. There are a few blowdowns and a couple of muddy spots, but it would take very little effort to turn this path into a very acceptable trail. I would definitely encourage people to go that way.
