trails: marston trail, herd path, mt. coe trail, south brother trail
conditions: marston trail in nice shape down low and generally dry. rougher in the last mile to the ridge, but footing still dry. to north brother the trail has some significant wet sections with mud and running water in places. the herd path to fort follows cairns to the trees and then has an overgrown, but discernible footbed to the summit. old axe blazes, old paint blazes and flagging of various vintages along the way. trail to coe had a nice footbed and was pretty dry. trail to south brother in nice good conditions too. saw our first ice of the year in the morning on rocks near the summit of north brother, but it was quickly gone. a few bog bridges a bit frosty early as well.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: a beautiful day for this hike. such great peaks and fanstastic views, mt. coe being a particular favorite. after a couple prior trips to this range i finally made the trip to fort to complete the nehh. thanks to mark, val and cynthia for a great day.
